Affirmation Shrine

An assemblage shrine I made out of recycled materials for the Escondido Arts Partnership Municipal Gallery Recycled Art Exhibition.   It's called the Affirmation Shrine, as I affixed snippets of text to the pincushion, like 'alternate', 'mystery', 'memory'...

Materials used:
Cigar box, sushi tray and 'garnish', vintage pincushion, text, old maps, keys, spiral notebook coil and cover, wooden spools, scouring sponge, plastic protractor, plastic toy, plastic push pins, optometrist lenses, ribbon, cellophane tea bag envelopes, artificial turf, eggshells.

  1. the keys speak of patience & opportunity
or of doorways to forgotten rooms.
once they jangled together in anticipation,
now they wait for a jolt or jostle that may
reawaken intention. the tumblers may tumble once again, letting the light stream through the doorjambs, unfolding a map to the seven seas...

  2. skybear, I like the combination of patience and opportunity', and the key as a tool to 'reawaken intention'. Funny too how those skeleton keys seem so basic, that they could open any number of those type of locks - not so - still looking for one to match a forgotten tumbler, perhaps revealing a map to a treasure, or the maybe the map IS the treasure........

  4. Thank you Laura, it was a fun project. With this issue of Tricycle, I noticed they have e-cards now! Finally a cool alternative from the usual goofy e-cards.
